Over the past week for Apex Legends, the universe surrounding has faced a downfall in future content expanding the storyline outside of the battle royale. For starters, a new Titanfall experience was canceled internally. Last year, a job listing revealed that Respawn Entertainment had an incubation in the works to feature a single-player experience for Apex Legends. In an update, it was revealed to be codenamed ‘Titanfall Legends’.
Additionally, Electronic Arts also made the decision to pull the plug on Apex Legends Mobile. The move simultaneously pulled the plug on development for Battlefield Mobile too. Currently, the game is counting down the days until its next major season. As players are familiar, Season 15 – Eclipse is close to meeting the horizon for a new theme.
On Monday, Respawn Entertainment announced Apex Legends Season 16 – Revelry. In it happens to be the first no new Legend will be added, but instead feature a hill of improvements to restructure how the game is experienced for returning players and newcomers. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:
For one, game mode Arenas is to be sunset in the new season with Team Deathmatch on the way. For the first three weeks will feature the new game type, but game mode playlist ‘Mixtape’ is to replace that later on. “Featuring a rotation of TDM, Gun Run, and Control, we see Mixtape as a great way for players to test out a new Legend, practice their skills, and just experience that signature Apex Legends gameplay in real combat situations with little downtime between fights.”
In terms of the newly leveled playground also incorporates the five official classes for Apex Legends this month: Assault, Recon, Skirmisher, Controller, and Support. “Each class will now have some kind of meaningful, unique perk—whether that be the way a Legend can interact with new loot bins or new ways to revive teammates.” A new weapon, the Nemesis assault rifle, will also be added to the loot pool for Revelry.
As part of the reshift in focus for players old & new, there are several changes to the firing range atop of a new ‘Orientation Match System’ for green players. “We’ll be making improvements to the Firing Range, adding in Dummy strafing and stats tracking. Specifically for our new players, we’ll be adding Bots to our matches so players can get their feet under them and a new Orientation Match system.
“Our goal with Orientation Matches is to create a lower-pressure environment where new players can get their bearings, learn the core mechanics, and have a little more space to breathe while they learn how to play Apex Legends. New players can play solo, or bring along friends, to play a handful of Orientation Matches primarily against bots before being put into the normal matchmaking queues.”
