Exploring the opportunity beyond the Apex Legends IP, developer Respawn Entertainment has recently revealed its next major project, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The game is said to be a direct sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and will continue the journey behind protagonist Cal Cestis. Atop of that, the firm is also working on two separate Star Wars projects: a first-person shooter & real-time strategy title.
Additionally, Respawn Entertainment has a new IP underway according to one job listing. The posting shared the new project to tackle “adventuring forever”, but that is the only details gathered from the discovery. Hope for a new Titanfall is still lingering with Apex Legends already connected to the universe. Former game director Chad Grenier told that “Apex has always been an expansion and evolution of the Titanfall universe,” bringing forward the universe as a whole.
Well, gathered from a new job listing for a Senior Engine/Systems Engineer, Respawn Entertainment is hiring for a new project set within the Apex Legends universe. Yes, you read that right. Despite Titanfall grandfathering this established universe, the next supposed project at the developer is aimed for the ongoing battle royale title instead. More specifically, this is for a single-player experience.
“Apex Universe FPS Incubation Title”, the listing describes the title as. A separate posting for a Hard Surface Artist gives a larger description. “This new single-player title is a developer’s dream playground with the freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits. Our critically acclaimed, multi-platform games have always established a ‘fun comes first’ sensibility created with the notion that great ideas can come from anyone, which allows creativity to shine and individuals to shape the game in meaningful ways.”
In the past, Respawn Entertainment has faced claims on working on Titanfall 3 already. Especially with the game utilizing the same Source2 Engine, it is possible this incubation project could be a mask for the next mainline installment. For those that might recall, the team did respond to comments of forgetting the original franchise by stating “Contrary to what some folks are reporting, Titanfall is the very core of our DNA,” but this is simply conjecture on our behalf.
