What certainly took fans off guard was the previous report made back in August of 2018 where Arkane Studios’ Lead Designer Ricardo Bare told VG27/7 that the team would be putting the story for Dishonored on halt following its sequel which shipped back in 2017. Not to be confused, the team did ship Dishonored: Death of the Outsider the year after Dishonored 2, but the game is posed as a spin-off.
“I can’t say definitely what might happen down the road, anything could happen, but [Dishonored] is resting for now,” Bare told the outlet at the time. But according to Creative Director for Arkane Studios Dinga Bakaba, that is an inaccurate estimate of the series’ current stance.
Speaking with IGN Middle East, Bakaba explains that the core story – the one involving Corov Attano and Emily Kaldwin – is finished and the studio does not plan to return to the portion of Dishonored any further.
So, whatever happens, that Dishonored is complete. This is the best, and most honest answer we can give but, in any case, I don’t think we will be revisiting that.
Given from the wording regarding ‘that’ story for Dishonored, it does leave room to suspect that we could see newer entries in the same universe that is shared with the first two games. Bakaba explained with the mainline series already done, further elaborates by telling “that story is over” specifically. Even more, he revisits the concept of Dishonored 2 to be fairly unique to the property and Arkane Studios as a whole seeing that the firm does not introduce follow-ups for their projects.
While it is uncertain where the future lies for Dishonored as of now, Arkane is currently underway with a new property that was revealed last June. During Bethesda’s E3 Showcase, the Lyon-based subsidiary announced Deathloop. You can read the full announcement by heading here.
What do you think Arkane Studios should do next for the Dishonored franchise?
