2024 is here and the state of physical media is starting to become an afterthought for some of the leading retail stores. Starting today, Best Buy has started removing all physical media and displays, that is according to @PhysicalMedia_ on X (Formerly Twitter).

This doesn’t come as a surprise since it was reported that Walmart would stop selling physical Xbox games in 2024. It may not even be just Xbox as stores might look into shortening their video games selection overall like it seems Best Buy is doing.

While it may seem we are headed into a digital-only age there are many customers out there who enjoy purchasing physical video games, but it seems options will begin to be limited. A Ubisoft executive argued that physical media will never go away.
