Stepping back a few weeks, you might recall that leadership changes were occurring at Ubisoft internal studio Ubisoft Montpellier as Game Director Michel Ancel announced his departure from the developer. The discovery came as a surprise as Ancel is recognized for his work with the creation of Rayman and directing the development for Beyond Good and Evil 2 at the time. Ancel disclosed his leave to pursue wildlife preservation.
But briefly following the announcement, a new report surfacing from French publication Libération disclosed Ancel’s behavior within the workspace being malicious towards other employees working within the team. While Ancel denounced the claims, several anonymous employees attested to the claim with their own personal stories working with Ancel.
But despite the leaving of the Ubisoft veteran, development is told to be performing to the liking of corporate Ubisoft. The discovery comes from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot which offered an update on the development status for Beyond Good and Evil 2 during the latest Earnings Report for Ubisoft.
The game is progressing well. The world is really fantastic; as you could see, Netflix also decided to take that universe and create a movie with it. So there’s a lot of progress in that team and the game is coming along very well.
Given that Guillemot is satisfied with the progression of the game and the presentation of the universe created, he does not elaborate much on new details for the project. Guillemot does also go on to reiterate on the motion picture currently underway in collaboration with Netflix, he does not illustrate new information for that either.
Repurposing the topic of Ancel, the behavior inflicted from him now being removed might reflect the shining performance of the game following his departure. More ideas and variety is prone to be subjected without a barrier withholding new thought. Similarly, the same situation occurred with several Assassin’s Creed entries with refrained more female-leading roles in the games. You can read the full report by heading here.
