For well over a year now, or even more for fans that anticipated this to happen, there has been continuous claims suggesting that a Mass Effect Trilogy of sorts is in the works for modern consoles. The bundle would include the three titular installments which shipped from 2007 to 2012. Of course, there is expected enhancements as the titles would run on newer hardware.

However, despite growing excitement for what could be a glowing return to the franchise, the announcement always came short of appearing. In late September, GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb disclosed that the originally-planned announcement for the game in October was scrapped and the entire operation was shoved into 2021.

But while the game was still a rumor, BioWare in a new announcement shares that the game is in fact legitimate. The firm unveiled the bundle to be ‘Mass Effect Legendary Edition’ which corresponds with the report from Grubb previously. You can watch the teaser trailer for the game in the video below:

“For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games,” Casey Hudson, BioWare Vice President shared on the project. “Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.

“It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements.” The game is shared to include all three mainline Mass Effect entries alongside unique in-game cosmetics optimized for 4K support. Even more, the game also offers “forward compatibility” to play the game on enxt-generation systems as well.

Interestingly, there is no Nintendo Switch version mentioned from the announcement. Although Grubb has proven to accurately relay news for the trilogy, his claim for a Nintendo Switch version as of yet is not verified. You can read the original report by heading here.

Are you planning on returning to Shepard’s shoes in the coming Legendary Edition?

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is scheduled to arrive for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC; to be enhanced for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
