So when it came to the update on the next game, Just Cause Mobile, it was a surprise to discover that Square Enix effectively shuttered the project. However, all is not lost as a movie is prepared for the series. In one report from Variety in 2019, it was understood that Derek Kolstad (John Wick) would be penning the script for a Just Cause film.
In a new development according to The Hollywood Reporter, Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto is now spearheading a new Just Cause project at Universal Pictures. What’s more, 87North Productions is attached to produce including Kelly McCormick (Deadpool 2, Atomic blonde) and David Leitch (Bullet Train, Fall Guy).
According to the report, The Hollywood Reporter also acknowledges the previous effort involving Kolstad’s involvement. It was indicated that the effort behind Constantin Films including Kolstad as well as Brad Peyton (Rampage, San Andreas) did eventually lapse for the rights on the production.
Recently, Universal Pictures has faced immense success producing video game productions including both The Super Mario Bros. Movie as well as Five Nights at Freddy’s.
