Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster takes advantage of Switch 2 mouse controls

During PAX East weekend, we had the opportunity to get hands-on with the Nintendo Switch 2 with Square Enix by playing Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, which is exclusive to the platform. The game will be released on June 5, 2025.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, and now we are seeing an improved version. In this short article, I want to go over the mini games the HD Remaster will have because it showcases and takes advantage of the Switch 2’s mouse controls.

Our time playing the game was roughly 10 minutes, but it was a fun experience. These mini-games we were able to play are completely new. One is a rhythm style game, and the other is where you control a flying vehicle, and you have to steer it among other objectives.

Switch 2 Mouse Control Impressions

Using the mouse controls on the Switch 2, it has been represented that it’s best used on a desk, table, or similar surface. We’ve seen that at the recent events Nintendo has been hosting over the last month. During my demo of the Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster mini games, my gameplay with the mouse controls was done on a table.

I tested it on my pants, and it worked perfectly. I also tried it on a couch, but I couldn’t get a good grip on using the mouse controls. Overall, in my opinion, the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls give the best experience while on a table or desk.

While playing Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, it was easy to move around and complete objectives. The gameplay was clean in both mini-games and the actual game itself. While playing through Bravely Default’s main game very briefly, I played using the Joy-Con controller. The magnets easily snap in, and there is no way to accidentally take them out.

One noticeable tidbit is that the game was very clean, and it was as smooth a game as could be on a TV. It’s hard to use Bravely Default as a good measure of quality, but you can tell it benefits from the power of the Switch 2.

The Joy-Con 2s are the perfect size, and the mouse controls are not just a gimmick. It’s a feature that actually works, and I hope even more games make exclusive modes for this feature.

The Nintendo Switch 2 releases on June 5, 2025 worldwide.
