Since Call of Duty Black Ops 4, the multiplayer and competitive scene had switched from the traditional 4v4 gameplay to 5v5 which completely changed the scene. It created a complete roster mania for organizations and it took some time for players to get used to the format. The five against five gameplay continued in Modern Warfare with the Call of Duty League.

Today, the official Call of Duty League Twitter account announced that 4v4 will be returning in the second season of the league for Black Ops Cold War. This would mean the same for its multiplayer when it launches.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be launching on November 13, 2020.
