Dotting back on the next-generation roadmap to this past June, Capcom during the first PlayStation 5 showcase properly unveiled Resident Evil 8: Village. The next mainline entry in the two-decade old franchise, the title months prior faced an abundance of details seeping through the cracks and later proven to be accurate from its announcement later in the year. Set in a titular village, players are again posed as Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters as he takes on a whole new onslaught of nightmarish creatures.

Most noted from the game’s presentation at the time, the new project would take advantage of the next-generation hardware on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X exclusively. That leaving the current PlayStation 4 & Xbox One out of the equation entirely. However, Capcom reiterates on possibly shipping the game for both systems after all.

During the recent Capcom Special Program as part of the Tokyo Game Show Online this past Friday, the publisher discloses that it is optimistic in potentially bringing Resident Evil 8 to current-generation hardware. But nothing is set in stone.

While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-generation consoles and PC, we’re looking into delivering the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. We’re looking into it, but we can’t make any promises. However, we will do our best to create a top-tier survival horror experience on current-generation consoles.

Tsuyoshi Kenda, Capcom Producer

Although Capcom does illustrate to be eager in pursuing Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Resident Evil 8, the firm is transparent when telling that the game is not guaranteed to arrive to the current-generation platforms. Witnessing some of the controversy surrounding the reveal trailer for the game, it would be quite the challenge for Capcom, but it certainly is not impossible.

The firm is also busy with a separate next-generation title as well. Titled ‘Pragmata’, this new title is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2021. Taking place on Earth’s moon following a catastrophic disaster, the game does not spare much in the sense for gameplay as of yet. You can read the full announcement by heading here.
