This week swiftly became an epicenter of news surrounding Microsoft’s upcoming console, the Xbox Series X. Head of the Xbox brand Phil Spencer disclosed a bevy of new information regarding the infrastructure of the next generation hardware and telling of restructured features that will satisfy Xbox One users when transitioning to the newer system.

Aspects such as the console’s processing power beefed up to be four times faster than the current Xbox One X which also expands to greater visual output and optimized performance which tops the standard of 60 frames per second to introduce 120 fps to retail units. Among the latter of details, which you can read in full here, there was other detail that was shared in conjunction with the technology highlights from Microsoft.

Developer CD Projekt Red elsewhere on Twitter announced a nice treat for users who plan on migrating to the Xbox Series X this coming holiday: if those who own Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One will be given an upgraded versions of the game following launch of the new system from Microsoft.

Noted, this new piece of information regarding the September-scheduled title ensures that players can continue to play Cyberpunk 2077 to the new standard cost-free. However, this is where the grey area starts to form around the anticipated title. Owning the Series X only holds to provide the respected player with a newer version of the title which will support better performance and upped resolution for the game; it will not be the Xbox Series X version.

Instead, this will simply be an enhancement similar to what we see currently with the Xbox Series X. Some original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles supported through backwards compatibility are dressed with an ‘X Enhance’ tag that provides a noticeable difference to the software in contrast to the initial appearance on the hardware it launched on. Another noteworthy mention is that the game is not listed for launch this coming holiday season, so fans, at the very least, should not expect to see Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox Series X.

Microsoft most likely achieved this agreement through the evident marketing rights that advertises the title using the Xbox brand. We have seen similar ambitions from the console firm with Xbox Play Anywhere which provides users who purchased games on Xbox and offers the game on PC for free and vice versa. Parallel to the new details of the new console, Spencer revealed Smart Delivery: first supporting Halo Infinite, the feature will support cross-buy between Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Do you plan on playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X later on?

Cyberpunk 2077 has been rescheduled to launch on September 17, 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
