In just roughly three years, CD Projekt Red achieved one of the largest turnarounds for a franchise ever. Along the likes of Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76, and No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 was plagued with similar issues of misleading promises with many arguing the reasoning to ship the game in the state it was in. But now in 2024, it is a different story for the current version players are indulging in.
Last fall, CD Projekt Red shipped its new Update 2.0 alongside story expansion Phantom Liberty. The volume of this new title update did have the Polish game studio encouraging users to start a fresh play with older saves exempt from the new features present in the updated Cyberpunk 2077. And this was only a taste for what the developer has planned in Project Orion – the codenamed sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
And while we are still years away from what will be the next Cyberpunk release, CD Projekt Red did comment on what the scale is compared to the original release. On X, narrative director Igor Sarzyński said Cyberpunk 2077 was “just a warm-up” compared to the sequel underway.
First day in the Boston office! So good to meet old friends and officially kickstart our Orion journey. I couldn't be more excited for this project and i'm sure we can make it something special. 2077 was just a warm-up 🔥

Sarzyński in the post also writes: “Also i can’t overstate the value of working with people you know, trust and like. The space of creative vulnerability, openess and risk is where the magic happens.” He also presses on work at the Boston studio for CD Projekt Red. Previously, developer The Molasses Flood was acquired back in 2021 as it would assist on development and continue work on its own content.
Elsewhere previously, CD Projekt Red has also branched over to unionized work for its employees. In Poland, Lev Ki & Paweł Myszka formed Polish Gamedev Workers Union. YOu can read the full report by heading here.
