From the likes of CD Projekt Red, the current state of the Polish developer is a surprise to say the least. Despite the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and the state it came in, the IP is bigger than ever. Just last month, the Netflix anime ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ arrived breathing new life into the universe. Atop of that, the firm revealed the first story expansion ‘Phantom Liberty’ which is launching next year in 2023.
Additionally, there is more The Witcher on the way. Being the franchise that brought the developer onto the map most prominently, it is no surprise the team is already underway with a new installment. Going back to March, CD Projekt Red confirmed a new saga for The Witcher is on the horizon for fans still waiting for a new game.
This week, the Polish game studio went to Twitter with full transparency sharing its playbook for the next several years. While we are still years from these titles being completely realized, the team shared new projects in the pipeline. This includes new entries for the Cyberpunk 2077 & The Witcher universes alongside a new IP as well.
For starters, The Witcher featured Project Sirius which reads “an innovative take on The Witcher universe telling an forgettable story for existing Witcher fans and new audiences. Moreover is Project Polaris which stands as the new trilogy for the mainline franchise. Thirdly, Project Canis Majoris is a new project involving a third-party team comprised of former The Witcher 3 developers.
As for Cyberpunk 2077’s involvement, a sequel dubbed Project Orion has been confirmed. Details how the new entry will expand on is left unmentioned aside to “prove the full potential of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.” The third, unnamed new IP is said to be “distinct from The Witcher & Cyberpunk 2077” with production underway since its 2021 incubation.
One interesting note is CD Projekt Red moving forward is searching to integrate multiplayer into its projects. Previously, the firm had plans for this effort with Cyberpunk 2077 prior to the overwhelming backlash of its release and canceled the ambition altogether.
