Over the course of a few months, many players have been engrossed with the upcoming release that is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. When showcased at the previous Xbox Developer_Direct this January, a lot were met with the charisma of Sandfall Entertainment and its love for JRPGs. And set to release in late April 2025, it was not long before the game arrived to store shelves.
In addition to the first impression praise, it was not long before the game was performing immensely too. Within the first 24 hours of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 releasing, the game already exceeded more than 500K units. And before the first week, over 1 million copies of the title was sold. Atop of being on Xbox Game Pass, the game is continuing to show great promise from a small French developer.
Now with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 still hot from the oven, a live-action film is already being pieced together for the new IP. According to a report from Variety, Story Kitchen is the production firm behind the new adaptation. Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Mike L. Goldberg (Sifu), Timothy I. Stevenson (Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft), and Elena Sandoval are attached to produce.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of ‘Expedition 33’ to the big screen. The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike,” Johnson & Goldberg share in a statement.
“Partnering with Story Kitchen allows us to expand the universe of ‘Clair Obscur’ beyond the gaming realm. Their expertise in storytelling and passion for our vision make them the perfect team to translate our game into a captivating film,” Sandfall Interactive CEO Guillaume Broche says. Broche recently told PlayStation the list of JRPGs that inspired the final version for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You can read the full report by heading here.
