Developer Compulsion Games has been in the shadows for over a handful of years since the release of We Happy Few. “Compulsion Games’ second major project was released to an indie horror gaming community that anticipated more than it got. We’re not mad, ‘We Happy Few,’ we’re just disappointed,” our review for the game says; scoring it a 7/10.
As for its next title, fans are growing interested in the direction for South of Midnight. Since its reveal in 2023, fans following were instantly glued to the art design for the new IP. What’s more, the developer upon showcasing gameplay last summer further illustrated that anticipation growing behind the new game. And learning that the game is launching in 2025 – players are excited to see what the final product will be at release.
From the recent Xbox Developer_Direct, Compulsion Games shares that an April release date is now in stone for South of Midnight. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:
“As Hazel, players will learn with her to use her powers, overcoming obstacles such as defeating enemies and removing barriers, from ‘conjuring’ past incarnations of objects to use them to overcome traversal and puzzle challenges, to combat-based spells to take on the biggest foes,” Compulsion Games‘ writer & narrative designer Zaire Lanier shares.
“Push, Pull, and Weave are some of the spells at your disposal that give you a tactical advantage during a fight. Timing is everything. Pull distant enemies close to start melee combos, push them back to interrupt and stun their attack, then press the advantage with follow-up strikes,” game director Jasmin Roy explains for the gameplay in South of Midnight.
