The ongoing shift in the Xbox landscape continues to surprise many as Microsoft redefines what the platform is. Earlier in 2024, it held a Business Update which featured four games going multiplatform: Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment. However, what was not clarified was the nuance for what to come after. Since then, titles Doom: The Dark Ages & Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were also included in this new category.
However, while Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty did clarify that this is game by game, there is more emphasis from other leadership indicating it is not over. According to CEO Satya Nadella, he shared a new effort which will “redefine” the Xbox user. This statement does align with other sentiment currently at the Xbox firm. The ongoing ‘This Is An Xbox’ campaign encourages playing Xbox titles on other platforms is still shared within the same ecosystem.
So for any further understanding on what the next move is for Xbox will be at its expected Developer_Direct this month. The last show in 2024 featured titles Avowed, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. On Thursday, Microsoft announced the next show is set to arrive later this month.
“Presented by the game creators themselves, Developer_Direct offers an in-depth look at upcoming titles, how they’re being created, and who’s creating them. We’ll visit Compulsion Games in Montreal, Canada to learn more about South of Midnight, head to Montpellier, France to see Sandfall Interactive for a look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, stop by the legendary id Studios in Richardson, Texas to check in on DOOM: The Dark Ages, and visit a surprise location to see another studio’s brand new game.”
Both Doom : The Dark Ages & South of Midnight are upcoming first-party Xbox Game Studios titles. The latter is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – the inaugural RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive. What’s more, Microsoft also hints there is another project set to be revealed as well. Last year, that title happened to be Visions of Mana from Square Enix.
