The idea of a new Ape Escape has been on the minds of many nostalgic PlayStation fans for nearly a decade now since the last installment in the series released back in 2010 with PlayStation Move Ape Escape. Though the initial series was soon overshadowed by spin-off games for PlayStation Portable and Wii competitor PlayStation Move, fans still anticipated some sort of new title to eventually drop for the coming future.
Especially seeing platform icons like Ratchet & Clank with a reimagined title for PlayStation 4 in 2016 and MediEvil which is set to drop later this Fall, it was assumed that other fan-favorite franchises were expected to receive the same attention this generation. And though this current wave of hardware seems to be coming to an end within the next year and a half, it might not be too late for Ape Escape after all.
According to a recent tweet from Twitter user @piposaru20th, a picture was posted with the caption translated from Microsoft’s automated translator reading “Piposar (20 years since then. I’ve been running around, but I wonder if there’s anyone chasing me anymore.”
ピポサル (あれから20年。ずっと逃げ回ってきたけど、もう追いかけてくるヤツもいないかな・・・?)

As many might see this as possibly just a fan-created image hyping up the series’ 20th anniversary, what makes the user standout is that Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan is following the unverified account. Which opens up to the possibility that this could potentially be legitimate after all.
Nonetheless, the Ape Escape universe has been left alone for almost ten years and it feels time that we see the return of the franchise to keep the nostalgia train on the rails. As we already expect other memorable series return like Destroy All Humans and even Spongebob Squarepants from THQ Nordic, another childhood revival wouldn’t hurt.
What are your thoughts on Ape Escape’s possible return to the gaming market?
There is no word on what platform(s) the unofficial title might be as of writing this.
