In the past decade, it might be considered unconceivable for Sony Interactive Entertainment to properly execute a stable placement in the film & television sphere. While the PlayStation company has been on a campaign for more than a decade to bring the long-promised Uncharted movie to the cinema, it is finally holding form. Even more, the project alongside the upcoming The Last of US HBO Series is just the start, said President & CEO Jim Ryan.
But looking at the foundation of what is PlayStation Studios, the entertainment division when formed back in mid 2019 did offer one additional production with minor information – Twisted Metal. While a new installment has been dormant from arriving for more than a decade now, PlayStation Pictures issued a television series is still to be in the coming future.
Now in a new report that arose on Monday from Variety, there is more meat to ingest from the original piece. In that, Deadpool & Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will both be penning the screenplay for the coming live-action television show as well.
Described as a comedy, here’s a rundown from the report: “The show is about a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.” Variety continues, “with the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.”
Cobra Kai writer and producer Michael Jonathan Smith is said to be an adjoined executive producer alongside Reese & Wernick. Additionally, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Pictures will also executive produce the production alongside PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst. Electric Avenue’s Will Arnett is said to be receive the same role in the project. Variety also entertains a rumor of Arnett voicing Sweet Tooth, but cannot confirm its validity.
As per a recent line of reports from Deadline & The Hollywood Reporter, The Last of Us’ HBO series already found its lead stars. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will be casted as Ellie & Joel respectively. You can read the full report by heading here.
