The current status for Anthem is not looking as many would hope to say well over a year since the game’s release. But developer BioWare does acknowledge the problem and has stated to be revitalizing the title with a complete reconstruction of the game to meet the expectations many hoped the title would meet originally. Last hearing from the studio BioWare shared that the new initiative would “be a longer process” in achieving than anticipating when first approaching.
Now in a new development blog post, BioWare returns to share an update on what is changing for the betterment of the experience for Anthem. Upon what has been shared, the most evident is the purging of the game’s original UI which is now replaced with a much cleaner and easy understanding layout for players to navigate. The design very closely resembles of what is already utilized in Destiny, clearly.
Among the most requested changes that Anthem users asked BioWare for, the team listened and offers that elements such as more diverse Javelin builds is a priority for the revamping. The new loadout selection screen differentiates with primary & secondary weapons, up to 11 equipment slots, and Component being swapped with Mods alongside Artifacts.
On the topic of Abilities – it can only be obtained by unlocks rather than drops BioWare emphasizes. These elements can also be upgraded through Skill Points that are unlocked or deposited towards Passives or Stat Boosts. Overall, the layout is now a Skill Tree in which players choose how their builds evolve over time.
We’re currently testing these ideas via a new skill tree system. In this system, each Javelin would have a “basic” skill tree where all the baseline Abilities, Passives, Triggered Abilities, and Stat Boost for your Javelin can be unlocked.
We would like you to be able to focus on the specific style of gameplay you like best about your Javelin, so after the basic tree is completed, we’re also testing the concept of Specializations. Each Specialization would have an Advanced Skill Tree where you’ll unlock Specialization-specific Abilities, Upgrades, and more.

Elaborating further on new additions, the team goes into detail on the foundation of Artifacts. In the spot of Components, these high tech items help divide how you upgrade between Javelin class and Freelancer class. Javelins respond to certain Artifacts and are prone to change in appearance depending on the parts you use. When combined, it also funnels towards a Passive that the player can benefit from altogether.
While BioWare is currently in this new revitalization campaign for Anthem, the team is also underway for the next Dragon Age title. The firm shared in August a brief studio showcase on where the team stands on the next entry sharing concept art and ideas which are still far away from the final release.
