Tracking back to the first week of May, Capcom revealed that the first title in the Devil May Cry series will officially breaking on to Nintendo’s platform with a Switch port later in the Summer. Following the announcement, the implication that the following titles that form the original trilogy of the franchise would follow in similar ports for the handheld hybrid console, but now it seems that is not the case according to a recent statement from the publisher.
After the initial reveal from Capcom, video game outlet US Gamer was contacted by Capcom sharing some more insight on the upcoming port: detailing that Devil May Cry for the Switch will be from the titular HD Collection that is currently available for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
But also clarifying with the website that there are currently no plans for both Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3 to be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Ultimately meaning that the HD Collection as well will not be dropping on Nintendo’s platform.
“Capcom is focused on bringing the original Devil May Cry experience for the first time to a Nintendo system,” Capcom told US Gamer. “No other titles have been announced.”
Adding on to the discussion, it also denounces the idea of the following reworked title Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition which also debuted for this generation of platforms also.
As countless fans have been eager to play just one of the series’ games on Nintendo’s hardware since 2001 practically, it is pretty disappointing that the follow-up titles for Devil May Cry aren’t part of the bigger picture for when this port releases in the coming months.
But that doesn’t mean it’s completely out of the window entirely; as Capcom has previously shared with the remake for Resident Evil 2 and potentially one for Resident Evil 3, if fans really want to see the game on shelves, they will have to be very vocal about it before they are convinced to make it a reality.
