DICE & Ripple Effect Unveils Battlefield Portal, A Petri Dish Combining Prior Games Into One Community-oriented Experience

Upon dissecting what is already paved for Battlefield 2042, it was fairly bare in terms of what modern takes the newest game from DICE is to bring. Yes, although the game introduced climate catastrophes to the mix of modern warfare, the meat everyone is curious to sink their teeth into is features like cross-platform play.

Originally, the team did not address the mechanic to be in the game. But in a later update, DICE disclosed that it will be available between next-generation systems & PC while the older Xbox and PlayStation is bridged together respectively. But that is not all with a separate surprise along the way. In that, the promised 128-player lobbies are to also include bots the populate the game’s lobbies, the team verified then.

Additionally, formerly DICE LA now Ripple Effect indicated to be working on a special project for Battlefield 2042 upon its relabeling a few weeks back. In a new announcement during EA Play Live on Thursday, DICE & Ripple Effect unveiled Battlefield Portal. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“Battlefield Portal is a community-driven platform within Battlefield 2042 that will let you create and find fantastic experiences made by the series’ creative and passionate community. The creation suite includes Settings, custom modes, and a Logic Editor so you can build your own signature spin on Battlefield’s sandbox; you’ll be able to change team ratios, tweak victory conditions, restrict weapons, and even put different factions from different eras in Battlefield’s history against one another.”

The overview for the announcement continues, “Those who want to focus on discovering what others have created will have easy access to an entire world of unexpected battles featuring some of the series’ most famous eras mashed together in distinct, exciting experiences.” So while the base game includes the new experience, Battlefield Portal will introduce a separate experience that bridges prior favorites into the modern era.

Most unique to Battlefield Portal is the new Experience feature: with that players can host their own matches and bend the rules to their liking. Furthermore players are given the choice on how the match is oriented, i.e. factions from different eras butting head-to-head, or more experimental approaches as well. In total, the new project is to combine Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 to make up Battlefield Portal.

For launch, Battlefield Portal is said to include the following maps: Battle Of The Bulge (Battlefield 1942); El Alamein (Battlefield 1942); Arica Harbor (Battlefield: Bad Company 2); Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2); Caspian Border (Battlefield 3); Noshahr Canals (Battlefield 3).

Battlefield Portal is to launch alongside Battlefield 2042 on October 22, 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
