This week, Microsoft surprised the industry with the release for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. After nearly a decade since Wolfenstein: New Colossus, MachineGames returns with a new project in partnership with Lucasfilm Games. It was revealed that the new cinematic experience contains more than four hours of cutscenes. Outside of Xbox Game Pass, the new title is also available at no extra cost if you are an avid IHOP Rewards member.

When speaking to Variety recently, Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly revealed that the story for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does canonically fit alongside the previous films that released for the series. Difficult enough to develop an experience that matches the feel of the films, MachineGames also crafted a story in which fits in the universe timeline too.

“So canon is such a complicated concept. It is an authentic story set between the two movies of ‘Raiders’ and ‘The Last Crusade.’ We work closely with the studio and franchise management. So yes, it is meant to be an authentic Indiana Jones experience, in that sense,” Reilly explained. He also elaborated that this also fits with the vacant space between films to add more with DLC still underway also.

“And the good news is, there’s a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.” In the same interview, Xbox games boss Matt Booty did express that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does fit the “game by game basis” for a multiplatform release with plans to ship on PlayStation 5 next year.

This is not the first time Bethesda transmedia abridges with video game canon. Previously, Todd Howard confirmed that the Fallout TV series fits on the timeline of for the series’ canon. Even more, with the release of the series this April, he also verified that Fallout: New Vegas is also officially conjoined to the universe lore too. You can read the full report by heading here.
