More than three years ago, Amazon & Bethesda shares a new effort to deliver a brand new, live-action television series set within the Fallout universe. And although there has been reports a TV show was in the works for more than a decade, the announcement was the most fulfilling news. What’s more exciting was the big names attached to the show like Walton Goggins (Django Unchained).
And although it has remained a slow burn on production – especially with it beginning in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic – any bit of information remains to hold the same weight in anticipation. The first official set reveal shared authenticity to what players remember when exploring the world of the post-apocalyptic wastelands. Even more, it was official the new TV show would air on Amazon this April in 2024 this coming spring.
Now in a new interview with Vanity Fair, it is revealed that the coming television adaptation is set within the shared universe of the game series, game director Todd Howard presses. “We view what’s happening in the show as canon. That’s what’s great, when someone else looks at your work and then translates it in some fashion. I sort of looked at it like, ‘Ah, why didn’t we do that?’”
Another namesake of the Fallout series is the Vault Boy. the iconic cartoon interpretation of the average vault dweller will be featured in the show. Not only that, but the characterization of Vault Tec’s test subjects is to receive an origin in the new TV series as well. “That was something that they came up with that’s just really smart,” Howard tells Vanity Fair.
More on the matters of transmedia adaptations with popular game franchises, it is very rare that the live-action/animated portrayal bleed into the same bucket. Previously, the Showtime Halo Television Series was confirmed to be set within a separate ‘Silver Timeline’ separate from the core game franchise. You can read the full report by heading here.
