For as long as we can remember, publisher Electronic Arts have been releasing all of the company’s titles for PC exclusively through Origin since the launch of the platform dating to 2011. Since then, the use of EA’s own launcher on PC slowly became the standard when playing any of the publisher’s titles for keyboard & mouse users: while questioning why not release the game’s on Steam as done previously, it was for the most part accepted for today’s expectations.
But according to an announcement from Electronic Arts themselves, the company plans to bring their titles back to Steam after nearly a decade of titles provided through homegrown Origin. Prematurely, EA did tease at this announcement through a simple video of the company’s logo on a coffee mug as steam arose from the cup last Friday.

Electronic Arts then goes on to share that a selection of other titles published by the company will also be arriving on Valve’s storefront in the coming future: naming a few such as Apex Legends, Battlefield V, FIFA 20, The Sims 4, and Unravel 2.
Then leading into Spring, the notorious EA Access will be migrating to Steam as well which will offer the same benefits that service owners currently have like ten-hour demos of upcoming games two weeks in advanced and the ever growing Vault which stores some of the biggest games published by EA. EA Access this July arrived to PlayStation 4 after being unique to Xbox One and Origin since its debut back in 2014
The publisher will initiate this announcement with the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which arrives on November 15th, but, there is one thing users should know about this move from EA. According to the Steam page for the Respawn Entertainment title, players will still be required to have Origin installed as well as running to play the game.
“Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software instillation and background use required.”
Do you plan on swapping to Steam for the next batch of upcoming EA titles?
