It was this past Monday that Hazelight Studio head Josef Fares teased the next entry from his team. Fares tweeted the team would share “a short tease” for the new game and insists you do not want to miss the official reveal. And just that happened with a brief montage of Fares’ story to him founding his Swedish game studio.

In the brief rundown of Fares’ life, he shares his involvement in film and wanted to expand more on the opportunity that contrasts making film compared the creating a video game. Fares tells there is more to juggle as the players essentially decides the pacing for the game rather than the viewer experiencing the pre-made direction of the film. Fares does that to segue the announcement for Hazelight’s third title, It Takes Two.

The game is a cooperative, action platformer that follows the story of a young daughter, Rose as her parents are facing a divorce. But the bets is to let Fares explain the plot of the new experience.

The story starts out with a small family. Cdy, May – that’s the parents – and then Rose, their daughter. So Cody and May are about to separate; Rose doesn’t want them to be divorced – so she creates two dolls out of wood & clay and these dolls come alive and actually controls both Cody and May and you could say you’re almost controlling their emotions; you’re always playing in their emotions.

Fores expands on the game by sharing that certain levels will also incorporate certain gameplay mechanics that will be based off the emotions of the both Cody & May. He states that this element is where the gameplay and the story intertwine which is an approach he believes not many players have experience yet in a video game.

Ending the discussion of It Takes Two, Fares seems to openly share what could be the ending of the game in its announcement. “It Takes Two is a crazy rollercoaster ride that doesn’t really have an ending – it does have an ending, nut that ending is that the rollercoaster crashes and you fly into the sky and get up into space and when you get into space, you’re like ‘what the f**k am I doing up here!’ and maybe you get back down to Earth again.”

Following the initial reveal, it is unsure where the title will land as no specific platforms were listed for the title during the announcement. However, the video does frame the game for a 2021 release window for sometime next year.

What do you think about It Takes Two.

It Takes Two will launch next year in 2021.
