EA Sports WRC Announced, Coming In November For Xbox Series X|S/PlayStation 5/PC

Although Electronic Arts already has a legacy racing franchise with Need for Speed and the dormant Burnout series, the publisher went ahead with the acquisition of Codemasters back in 2021. And while there will be a new parent company for the Dirt, F1 developer it is clarified that Electronic Arts will not play any part in reshaping what Codemasters stands for ahead of the deal processed.

More recently, Codemasters has restructured some of its talent. Partly, its Cheshire team was repurposed into a new studio to work on the ongoing Need for Speed IP. Additionally, a subsidiary shuttered one series: Project Cars. Part of Slightly Mad Studios, the racing simulator was decided to be shuttered with Electronic Arts rethinking the investment in the series as talent moves to other work.

This week, Electronic Arts & Codemasters share a new-named project, EA Sports WRC. Similar to Super Mega Baseball 4 after the developer’s acquisition from Electronic Arts, the same manifested for WRC too. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“EA Sports WRC is the purest form of motorsport where every stage is a fight against the clock, the terrain, and yourself. This is the rally game we’ve always wanted to make, combining our studio’s deep knowledge and expertise with the power of the official WRC license representing the pinnacle of rally motorsport,” Codemasters senior creative director Ross Gowing writes.

One of the biggest changes is EA Sports WRC is to adopt Unreal Engine as the game focuses on a shipping for Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. Noted, pre-ordering the also grants players three-day early access to EA Sports WRC which goes live on October 31, 2023.
