To keep its reputation up, it is pretty unclear how THQ Noridc patent company Embracer Group will outdo itself once again with another set of acquisitions. Previously, the firm unveiled that it will be purchasing Metro developer 4A Games and after that came with Borderlands game studio Gearbox Software. That alongside the buying of Saber Interactive as well, there is little left for the firm to buy up it appears.
But, the firm continues to find new entities to purchase which is fascinating to witness each time they resurface with a new set of acquisitions. Most recently came the purchase of Kaiko – a master-class porting studio responsible for titles such as Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, Legend of Kay Anniversary, Darksiders: Warmastered, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning.
Now, the firm in a new string of statements announced the buying of eight more game studios to add to its entourage. You can read the full list below:
3D Realms
CrazyLabs
Digixart
Easy Trigger
Force Field
Ghost Ship Games
Grimfrost
Slipgate Ironworks
Of course, the most eye-opening is aimed at 3D Realms – the firm responsible for Duke Nukem as it was a pioneer for the first-person shooter genre back in the 1990s alongside id Software then. Additionally, teams such as Slipgate Ironworks is also a surprise since it alongside 3D Realms did collaborate with One More Level for an enticing release last year – Ghostrunner.
So, Embracer Group purchased 2/3rds of the development power for Ghostrunner. However, it does not appear likely that the THQ Nordic parent company will get its hand on the IP believe it or not. Publisher 505 Games acquired the license last year as a sequel is already underway with One More Level at the helm. You can read the initial report by heading here.
