Microsoft has been known to only have a handful of studios over the years like 343 Industries, Rare, Turn 10 Studios, and The Coalition, but that was until they started to make acquisitions. The first major studio acquisition Microsoft had done was Mojang, the creators of Minecraft then fast forward they acquired Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Undead Labs, and Double Fine Productions.
Eventually, Microsoft acquired Zenimax Media which brought many studios under the Xbox family such as id Software, Tango Gameworks, Arkane Studios, Bethesda Game Studios, and others. On Friday, October 13, 2023, the acquisition for Activision Blizzard officially closed bringing a load of IPs and even more studios to the Xbox first-party lineup like Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and a lot of others.

It’s also worth noting there are multiple Game Studios under Blizzard Entertainment such as Blizzard Albany, Austin, Boston, Seoul, Sydney, Shanghai, Cork, Taipei, and Irvine. King also has over 11 Game Studios spanning across Barcelona, Longdon, Berlin, Chicago, Dublin, New York, Los Angeles, Malta, and other locations.
Bethesda Game Studios also has four locations in Rockville, Austin, Dallas, and Montreal working on the iconic Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield franchises.
It’s not a Game Studio, but MLG is now under the Xbox family which was once a staple in the esports world. Activision hasn’t done anything with the brand in the last few years.
The possibilities are endless for Xbox Game Studios, but it remains to be seen what they will do with such iconic IPs.
Thanks to Klobrille for showcasing all the brand-new first-party studios for Xbox.
