Last year studio head Michael Condrey announced his departure from Sledgehammer Games that he along with Glen Schofield both co-founded back in 2009 following previously working at Visceral Games. Despite Condrey leaving the role of studio head, he did ensure to still be working at Activision in the coming months. But now it seems that isn’t the case with the recent news surrounding the industry veteran.
This past weekend it was discovered that Michael Condrey did in fact leave Activision for Take-two’s 2K and is now running a new studio in Silicon Valley. It was also revealed that he along with the newly founded team are already working on an undetailed title at the fresh California studio.
Stated by Condrey on joining 2K and the studio’s opening:
Great games come from the passion of a team driven by the pursuit of quality and the empowerment of an independent studio model. 2K’s studios have creative and technical autonomy, backed by a world-class infrastructure of support, and that offers the perfect recipe to build a new studio and craft experiences that will lead the next generation of gaming for fans everywhere.
To further any speculation on the new title, Condrey specified that the upcoming project will be developed for the approaching next generation of platforms. For what the title might actually be though, it is safe to guess an action adventure title to say the least. Looking at his previous work (Dead Space, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Call of Duty: WWII), this could form enough of an foundation of what to expect the genre the title will fall under.
As Take-Two did reference the new game as an “unannounced project” rather than a new IP, it could imply a returning series that has been absent from 2K the past generation or two. But that’s heavily implied speculation and is up to you on what the title might be if it happened to be intentional.
