For those who might recall a statement made by Xbox lead Phil Spencer dating back this past February, the gaming executive shared that its worries when leaning forward in the industry and on the verge of a new console generation is neither Sony or Nintendo, but instead the likes of Amazon and Google. Spencer explains that as gaming continues to evolve, many firms will intervene to bring more accessible ports of entry for entertainment.
This has already been a pursuit for Microsoft with xCloud – a cloud-based streaming service which launched back in September – and the pursuit to further establish its presence is only to expand for Microsoft. But now another major competitor is approaching: Facebook.
In a new blog post, the social media giant announces to be integrating cloud gaming into its self-named video game platform, Facebook Gaming.
We’re announcing that Facebook Gaming has launched several cloud-streamed games in the Facebook app and on browser — playable instantly, with no downloads required. We recently had 200,000 people playing our cloud-streamed games per week in limited regions, so while it’s not exactly a secret, I’m excited to lay out what we’re building.
Cloud game streaming promises to deliver unprecedented access to games across every screen. And while we’re thrilled to play a part in that future, that future is a ways off.

Facebook also tells to share the same perspective as Microsoft on its pursuit to incorporate and be an option alongside console and PC – not replace it. “We love console and PC gaming and both formats will be around for a long time.” For now, Facebook will offer the games expected from the platform with intentions to expand its library later on.
Here is the full list of titles mentioned in the announcement:
Asphalt 9: Legends
Dirt Bike Unchained
Mobile Legends: Adventure
PGA TOUR Golf Shootout
Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale
WWE SuperCard
While more games are promised to come in full effect later in 2021, new features are also being introduced. Elements such as player names to customize your profile is said to debut. Additionally, cross-platform play is to be implemented in certain titles between the Facebook Gaming and the cloud service.
Recently, Amazon announced its own video game streaming service, Luna. Alike xCloud and Stadia, the platform also comes with its own unique benefits for Amazon users. You can read the full rundown on that by heading here.
