For fans that might have been following the tail end of Microsoft in recent weeks, you should be well aware that the coming cloud-based service Project xCloud is currently in the final stages of development as the console giant is preparing the release for the platform in the latter parts of 2020. In recent news, Microsoft disclosed that the approaching gaming sphere for users to play their favorite titles on mobile devices is also being used internally.
In that, the firm shared that a handful of developers are currently prototyping an xCloud-based application to use developer kits for the coming platforms from Microsoft. First-party teams in the Xbox Game Studios network alongside third-parties such as Infinity Ward and Eidos-Montreal are already tinkering with the service to continue working remotely without a physical unit.
Now in anticipation for the new service to hit the mainstream later this year, Microsoft has announced that the wait will officially end right on the horizon for this fall season.
Today we’re announcing that this September, in supported countries, we’re bringing Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud together at no additional cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. With cloud gaming in Game Pass Ultimate, you will be able to play over 100 Xbox Game Pass titles on your phone or tablet.

In addition to the service officially set to debut in just a little over a month, Microsoft disclosed that Xbox Game Pass users will be able to utilize the service as Project xCloud will arrive compatible for the monthly subscription. Furthermore, this applies specifically to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, Microsoft clarifies in the announcement.
In nature of the announcement and to elaborate further, Microsoft explains that with the holiday release of Halo Infinite – the Xbox Series X launch title will be available day one on Project xCloud as well. However, details were not provided on how Project xCloud will be accessed for users who decide to use the service outside of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Elsewhere recently, Microsoft has announced to be partnering with 8Bitdo to develop a new Xbox controller crafted specifically for Project xCloud. The gamepad will be equipped with a phone mount so you can play without the hassle to prop your mobile device on a static object. You can read the full announcement by heading here.
