For publisher Square Enix, the firm is busy working on PlayStation-unique properties currently. It was reported that the firm’s internal teams are already underway for the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake as of December last year. But while the current entry is available for the PlayStation 4, it is suspected the publisher could be working on a next-generation version as well, according to Square Enxi CEO Yosuke Matsuda.
Outside of Final Fantasy, Square Enix is currently working on a separate, codenamed property exclusively timed for the PlayStation 5. That being Project Athia: the game from Luminous Productions was announced back in June with very little detail to expand on what players can anticipated from the new title. Howbeit, the game illustrates the leap to newer hardware which alone will attract followers already.
But now, another project looks to be hitting the PlayStation 5 in an announcement later this week. Speculated to be unveiled during the second PlayStation 5 showcase settled for this Wednesday, September 16, Final Fantasy XVI might make an appearance. The claim sprouts from the finding of a Twitter account reading the “FF16_JP” in its handle.

Currently, the Twitter account is locked with no information provided as illustrated from the image above. But with the account being created in ‘August 2020’ as the image shares, there is room suggesting the announcement is imminent to take place. On top of marketing ties with Sony Interactive Entertainment in the past, it is suggested that the game will most likely shared during the upcoming virtual event.
Gathered from the one finding, it does offer more tangible evidence than the continued claim of a return for Silent Hill. The rumor has been tossed around since March allegedly framing that the series will be resurrected thanks to an undisclosed acquisition between Sony and Konami. But despite what many are hopeful to see come to fruition, Konami, Hideo Kojima, and Kojima Productions denounced the claim to be illegitimate.
More on Project Athia, Square Enix CEO told that the coming title will be sandbox-structured experience. “An open-world style game in which users can freely move around the game world,” Matsuda shared. You can read the full report by heading here.
