After being criticized for not supporting cross-play for a while now, Sony have announced today that the PlayStation 4 will now support cross-play starting with an open beta on Fortnite which begins today. In the future other third-party titles will be supported with cross platform play on PS4.
The open beta will allow PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating system users to play with each other. This will be a great test to ensure that cross-platform play will be the best as possible on the PlayStation platform. The other title that we can see happening in the future for sure is Rocket League which is already a cross-play game with Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC users. It would make sense for Rocket League to be the next title since it was on console first with PlayStation following Xbox a year later.
This is huge news for the consumers as now everyone can play together no matter what platform you are on and we can’t wait to see how it grows in the future. Another title that we could possibly see is PUBG as it was listed for PS4 recently which you can read more about here.
