It has been nearly a month ago since Google stepped up to announce that the firm’s subscription service for Stadia will be free for the two coming months. In the announcement, Google shares that the incentive was triggered to help ease the troubling situation sourced from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic suggesting extensive social distancing. However, more has spruced from the instance according to a new report.
Told by Gamesindustry.biz, the industry-focused outlet tells that the gesture provided by Google essentially transitioned in the free tier of Stadia that was initially promised for users. Again on the topic of the two-month Stadia Pro promotion, Google confirms with the site that those who allow the service to overrun its duration will still be able to utilize the interface to purchase games and do other activities through Stadia.
However, Google stated this would be through the Stadia Base tier. What raises an eyebrow on the scenario is that Google elsewhere clarified to be abandoning the status in favor for a self-named Stadia tier instead. The firm actually elaborates on the matter through a community post last week.
Last week, Stadia opened up access to Stadia to everyone in our 14 launch countries. Some of you may be wondering if this is Stadia Base. While we’ve decided to move away from that name, we’re very excited that Stadia is now free and open to everyone who wants to create an account in our supported markets. We’re also making a number of games available for free during a 2 month Stadia Pro trial.
In the post, the Stadia employee evidently clarifies the difference between Stadia’s free tier and the cost-free trials of Stadia Pro being separate. Gamesindustry.biz goes on to clarify that the noticeable differences between both statuses is the performance of games limiting free users to 1080p resolution while Pro subscribers can indulge in a 4K output. Pro members can also partake in the free monthly titles that Google will offer to those who pay for the service, of course.
As strategic as this comes out to be in Google’s favor, it was evident that tech giant was on its way to open the floodgates for free admission. Reflecting back to February, the firm announced the addition of over a dozen smart phones to receive support outside of the three Google Pixel devices already in the ring. It was imminent that the company would open its free tier if allowing more users to participate in Stadia.
In a recent announcement this week, Google announced that 2020’s first Stadia Conenct will be taking place this coming Tuesday, April 28. It is expected to learn more about software, implemented features, and the next array of Stadia Pro games for the platform. You can read the full report by heading here.
Stadia is out now for select mobile device, PC, and television.
