From the ashes of Guitar Hero, Harmonix rose with Rock Band. And after four installments and years of additional songs & content, the team in 2020 announced Fuser. While it is not its take on FreeStyleGames’ DJ Hero, it still brings the fondness for energetic Djing to the mix. Instead, you use samples from popular music to ‘fuse’ together your own tracks.

The game shipped back in fall 2020 and has remained for roughly two years. In the midst of the game’s development, Harmonix was also said to be working on a new project for Stadia Games & Entertainment then. But with the division closing, it was unsure the whereabouts of the project since then.

And this week, the online service alongside store for the game is to close down, Harmonix announces. “We want to thank you for mixing with us. On December 19, we will be disabling Fuser’s live services and all sales of the game, as well as its DLC. Players who already own Fuser  will still be able to play the Campaign and Quick Play with any DLC they have already acquired.”

Harmonix continues, “Thank you again for your support and for all the amazing mixes over the years.” Now the only question remains as to what the developer will be pursuing next. Despite Harmonix still supporting Rock Band 4, it is certain a new game is also under the hood as well. And given the trend for more than a decade, it will likely be yet another rhythm game – and no one is complaining either.

Last November, it was announced that Epic Games purchased the Rock Band developer. Now alongside Psyonix (Rocket League) and Mediatonic (Fall Guys), Harmonix is now another major player for Epic Games. Going back on that project over at Stadia, it is likely to be repurposed for Epic Games when the reveal eventually comes. You can read the full report by heading here.
