Helldivers 2 has now lost 90% of its player base

One of this year’s most talked about games has to be Helldivers 2 when it launched in February from Arrowhead Studios on PC and console exclusively on PlayStation 5. When Helldivers 2 was at its peak it reached 458,709 concurrent players on Steam which was only a few weeks after launch. In just four months the player count has dropped 90% from what it used to be.

The latest 24-hour peak for Helldivers 2 on Steam is 42,293 which is still good compared to other games, but also surprising given the excitement that the game received this year. On Twitch, Helldivers can barely reach over 1,000 viewers across all the live streamers playing the game.

Thanks to Forbes for pointing this out first.

Helldivers 2 is a live-service video game and one thing that Arrowhead Studios has yet to announce publicly is any type of expansion or major DLC for players to look forward to. There have been plenty of cosmetics, new gear, and major orders added to the game. A lot of complaints from players have been that higher levels are too challenging.

In May, Helldivers 2 had a lot of negativity around it when Sony initially decided to have all PC players connect a PSN account to play the game. That resulted in thousands of negative reviews and players refunding it. When players made their voices heard, Sony then reversed its decision and no longer required players to link a PSN account.

Has the hype died for Helldivers 2 or will it make a comeback?
