Hideo Kojima Reportedly In Discussion With Junji Ito Regarding A New Project

Tacking back to the first half of this console generation, it was uncovered through an anonymous free demo dubbed ‘P.T.’ that this short playtest is only a sample of what will eventually become Silent Hills. The project was to star The Waling Dead Norman Reedus and incorporate Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Junji Ito as part of the production leads for the coming title. But as we remember, the project swiftly fell apart as Kojima not too long after departed from Konami.

It wasn’t until this past November that the following project that included Kojima, del Toro, and Reedus that is Death Stranding officially released. However, the remaining Ito was left out of the released title. Prior to the arrival of the inaugural entry from Kojima Productions, Ito disclosed that his involvement with Silent Hills never came to fruition as he only received free tickets to see Pacific Rim and a night of Karaoke with Kojima and del Toro.

However, it looks that Kojima might be trying to solidify their relationship with a new project. When speaking in an interview during Comic-Con@Home, Ito disclosed that him and Kojima are currently discussing working on a new title together.

I do know director Kojima and we have been in conversation that he may have a horror-based game that he may be doing, and so he has invited me to work on that, but there are no details on it yet.

Taken from the wording of Ito statement after being translated, he does not confirm that the project has officially begun production. In fact, the title is still in discussion and we will probably not hear or see the aforementioned title for quite some time it seems. With Kojima Productions quietly working on a new project presumably, players will have to wait well after the next-generation consoles have shipped.

But taken from the statement Ito provided, this project could be a new experience to look forward to in the coming future. It was disclosed by Hideo Kojima himself back in May that a project he had at the way at the time effectively “fell apart” as expectations did not meet the scope of the new production. What do you hope this project between Hideo Kojima and Junji Ito could be if it becomes a reality?
