While Irrational Games with the release of Bioshock Infinite more than a decade ago went head first towards a nomination for Game of the Year, the firm swiftly faced abrupt closure alongside taking the video game IP with them. Since then, content remains light on the series making a return. While the original trilogy has been remastered for eight generation consoles, a new release is nowhere in sight. However, that was until 2K did something.
In late 2019, the firm announced the opening of a new dedicated developer for the Bioshock franchise, Cloud Chamber. Since then, little on the project has been shared. One recent report suggests the new title will be introducing a new setting. Additionally, more news surfaced earlier this February when Netflix announced a film adaptation will be coming.
According to a new press release this week, the streaming platform revealed the director and writer for the production. In that, I Am Legend & The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence alongside Logan, Blade Runner 2049, and Death on the Nile writer Michael Green are now attached to the Bioshock adaptation.
Lawrence is also said to be posed as a producer alongside Roy Lee (Godzilla va. Kong, It Chapter 2) representing Vertigo Entertainment. Executive producers include Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick with Cameron MacConomy who worked alongside Lawrence on The Hunger Games and continued with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
Entertaining other Bioshock media in recent times, a separate report discloses the next title to be an open-world experience. From one job listing for a Senior Writer, it expresses “[hope] to find someone who can weave impactful, character-driven stories in an open world setting.” You can read the full report by heading here.
