E3 2023 is confirmed to be happening in Los Angeles this year after not being able to host the event due to Covid the last few years. According to knowledgeable sources to IGN fans shouldn’t expect to see Nintendo, Xbox or PlayStation take part in the event. This means they won’t have have a presence on the show floor or have E3 presentations.
It was announced last Summer that the organizer of PAX and New York Comic Con, ReedPop would be organizing E3.
Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer said that they will be holding their Summer Showcase around the same time as E3. Which could mean that whatever Microsoft is hosting in LA during the same time as the E3 convention members of the press and the consumers would be able to attend this event.
ReedPop is handling E3 and they’ve been successful at hosting two of the major PAX events during the year being West and East. It is a little surprising to not see Nintendo attend the event as they’ve been a big attraction with their massive booths theming a major title they are planning to launch. It could very well be that Nintendo just doesn’t have many games coming out this year.
“It’s unfortunate that the physical event returns when Nintendo is at the tail end of the Switch lifecycle, with no sign of a next-gen device this year,” Rolls says. “I’m not sure it will have many games to show this year, so it makes sense to skip.”
It’s no surprise that Sony won’t take part in E3 as they already started doing their own thing. Electronic Arts seemed to predict the future in 2016 when they started EA Play that took place two days before E3 actually began.
What it seems like is that there will be an Xbox event hosted around the time E3 2023 takes place so fans could attend both events. Instead of just an entire booth area it looks like Microsoft will have more to offer.
E3 2023 takes place June 13-16.
