What makes the latest installment of the Call of Duty franchise so successful is the reinvention of the core gameplay that many fans have continued to criticize of being repetitive and predictable. Modern Warfare this past October instantly took the charts as one of the most triumphant titles of 2019 thanks to the fresh take on the already billboard series and introduces new aspects like a reiterated Ground War and fully supported cross-play.
However, what many fans who’ve migrated from the year prior of Black Ops 4 have shared anticipation for the current entry to receive a very popular mode, battle royale. Among the slew of titles that prioritize the game type like Fortnie, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and the younger Apex Legends, Call of Duty is split in between as there are fans who support and oppose the mode hitting the popular first-person shooter.
But with the debut of Season 2 for Modern Warfare earlier this week, reports have went out suggesting that the game is expected to receive the mode in the coming future. This speculation comes from the Season 2 loading cinematic trailer that was uploaded when booting the game for the new segment of content. You can watch the video below:
Upon entering the main menu for the game as you would expect when the game loads past the introductory animations, players have instantly picked up a newly added “classified” tab. And after watching the trailer that kicked off Season 2, this only fuels the fire for what is expected to be the game’s own interpretation of battle royale.
Elsewhere, one user have stumbled upon a glitch what seemingly discloses the name of the unannounced battle royale. Reddit poster ARedWerewolf uploaded an image of what looks to be a lobby for Modern Warfare. But after a closer examination, the precise lobby, the screen capture reveals to be for an unidentified mode “Warzone.” A second image shared shows of ‘Drop Kits’ which are suspected to be your own decorated loadout for the teased game mode.
Additionally, there is also a leaked key art for Warzone which was reported to be posted on Reddit recently, but the image was quickly copyrighted by Activision and removed from the online forums. Seeing the amount of detail that aligns with one another, it is hard to suggest that this is simply a coincidence. Fans looking ahead for the reveal will have to be patient in the meantime until Infinity Ward is settled to properly announce the battle royale.
