In recent years, Konami despite sitting on its treasure trove of legacy properties has not done much in offering a new mainline entry – that being for Silent Hill, Castlevania, or Metal Gear. However, the firm is adamant of retro collections for resale. In that, we’ve seen the Konami Anniversary Collection: three bundles for legacy arcade games alongside the classic Castlevania, and Contra titles.
Additionally, the firm went even further with the Castlevania Advanced Collection later on bringing the beloved Game Boy Advanced titles to new systems. The most recent being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection which launched earlier on in 2022. And now with the announcement for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a new collection is enroute for this year.
Following the reveal for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was a hinting towards a trilogy collection for the first three Metal Gear Solid titles. Under the guise of ‘Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1’, it includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
“We will deliver the ‘Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The ‘Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms,” Konami writes in the letterhead to its fans via Twitter.
What is suggested from the titling for ‘Vol. 1’ is that more collections are on the way. As many fans are aware, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. And with that comes limited backwards compatibility for the platform as the game cannot reach newer hardware. A previous report shared reasoning was that Xbox 360 was not part of the vision entirely.
