Nearly a year since the release of The Last of Us Part II, the game has surely become the most influential release in history. In that, it was reported back in January that Naughty Dog’s latest release overtook CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in awards received for a game. At the time, The Last of Us Part II overtook the 2015 release with 261 awards in total. But, it appeared that the game did not leap far since its launch in terms of support.

More specifically, the game never truly received a next-generation patch for PlayStation 5 – even at launch. But, games that released around the same time or even after got support. Namely releases such as Ghost of Tsushima & Days Gone for example received firmware boosts to complement the hardware within the PlayStation 5.

But, Naughty Dog on Wednesday launched a new update which enhances The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 5. You can watch the update trailer in the video below:

“Once patch 1.08 for The Last of Us Part II is installed on your PS5, you will find a toggle in the Display options that allows you to choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS,” Arne Meyer, Naughty Dog Director of Communications explains in the blog post.

“This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more.” In the past, Naughty Dog did inject some adjustments and a new ‘Grounded’ difficulty mode, but not in anticipation for the PlayStation 5.

Recently, The Last of Us Part II director Neil Druckmann commented that Naughty Dog already drafted the next The Last of Us game. When speaking to IGN, he disclosed that development has yet to initiate despite the foundation being formed already for the next entry. You can read the full report by heading here.
