Nintendo announced that Charles Martinet will be stepping away from voice acting characters in games going forward. The original voice of Mario has seen its final days already as Martinet will not be featured in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Charles will become a “Mario Ambassador” said Nintendo and they are excited about honoring his legacy. Here is a statement Nintendo provided to Nintendo World Report:
While Charles is not involved in Super Mario Bros. Wonder or WarioWare: Move It!, we’re excited to honor his legacy and contributions, including looking ahead to what he’ll be doing as a Mario Ambassador. For the upcoming HD re-release of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, as it is a re-release, Charles’s voice will appear in the game.”
The new voice actor for Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi has yet to be announced by Nintendo. It doesn’t seem like any updated voice over work was done for Super Mario RPG Remake where Charles is featured.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will feature a new voice actor for both Mario and Luigi since Charles did both of them along with Wario and Waluigi.
