While Microsoft continues to turn heads with the recent announcement of the firm’s completed acquisition of Zenimax Media, the Bethesda parent company, it is presumed that the firm will continue to talk and discuss its future in terms of the potential first-party releases and AAA projects that are underway. However, the Xbox company is also recognized for its support in the indie game market as well.
For the past console generation on Xbox One, Microsoft has and still continues to support smaller studios with the ID@Xbox program for those looking to expand its reach for upcoming projects: games such as Luis Antonio’s 12 Minutes that the Xbox team has showcases time and time again. And similarly, Microsoft is continuing to do so with a dedicated showcase later this month.
On Thursday, Microsoft announced the first ever ID@Xbox/TwitchGaming showcase and is expected to arrive next Friday.
We’re featuring tons of independent titles, including brand new game announcements from developers and publishers such as DrinkBox Studios, Curve Digital, Devolver Digital, Dear Villagers and others. During the showcase, we’ll debut new trailers and gameplay for more than 25 games, including Second Extinction, The Ascent, The Wild at Heart, Voidtrain, Exo One, an update on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and many more.
We’ll also be making announcements about independent titles coming to Xbox and Xbox Game Pass. Community-favorite Twitch Streamers will host the showcase and conduct interviews with developers, take fan questions and maybe even drop some game codes.
Glenn Gregory, ID@Xbox Senior Marketing Manager
While the statement from ID@Xbox states that there will be 25 featured games through the lens of trailer, gameplay, and other media, the blog post also insists that about 100 titles are to be in the coming show. “ID@Xbox,/twitchgaming and more than 100 (!) games from independent developers based all over the world,” one segment of the post reads.
While indie games continue to shape the future with unique experiences and twists on beloved genres, Microsoft is also redefining how small studios are established in the industry. Previously, She Sleeps Elsewhere developer Studio Zevere shared that its deal with Xbox Game Pass solidified the game to meet its end of development with ease.
