During the latest PlayStation State of Play Direct-esque presentation, publisher Activision served the first taste of what the story campaign will offer in this October’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Interesting enough though, there was also a little surprise that was packed with the single-player trailer: survival will be making a return for Infinity Ward’s upcoming project.
Right before the end of the trailer, a title card shortly appears reading that Special Ops will be returning to the latest installment for the Activision franchise. Specifically survival mode, the trailer reveals that fans can “play first on PS4.”
However, in the smallest test just below the text just quoted above, Activision states that the Special Ops mode will be exclusive to Sony’s platform until October 1st next year. This does not really come as a surprise since Sony Interactive Entertainment does have marketing rights with Activision, so it was expected that some content would be first on the platform before other.
Activision even stated last week that “PS4 players will have an exciting Day 1 advantage” when disclosing how additional content will be distributed for the approaching first-person shooter – this just happens to be survival mode. Despite that, all other content arriving to game post-launch will release concurrently between all supported platforms.
Ultimately this does hinder those on other systems to interested to play the mode when it finally arrives nearly a year after it releases for Xbox and PC: mainly due to the fact that the initial flow of players will simmer down amid the game’s first year duration, and essentially will be overshadowed by the next yearly installment for the series.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be out on October 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
