Back in February, then-titled Mojang announced that the Nether Update would ship to Java users in the 20W06A snapshot for Minecraft. What this new snapshot would include offers an array of big changes to the hellish Nether world that players can visit in-game. Prior to the snapshot, the subterranean landscape only offered minimal visual flair which shared to be a necessity for players who wished to explore that realm of Minecraft more.
Since then, Mojang continued to roll out several additional snapshots that addressed smaller issues with the update alongside more planned additions to the Nether world that the Swedish team had scheduled to be added at a later time. Now close to five months since the first snapshot arrived, Mojang Studios has announced that the update is finally upon fans for release.
In a new blog post, Mojang Studios announces that the Nether Update will ship to Bedrock version of Minecraft (Xbox/PlayStation/Switch/Mobile) this coming Tuesday, June 23rd.
Referencing the Nether Update page on the game’s website, Mojang Studios highlights some of the biggest additiosn worth noting. Such as the new mineral Netherite which is penned to be “stronger than diamond” and the addition of Piglins – a new race of mobs that will be populating the Nether world.
While Piglins will stand to be a similar encounter to Zombie Pigman, Hoglins are a new mob that will cause some trouble when interacting with them in the wild. The Nether Update will also include the addition of the target block: this new added block will allow players to trigger redstone-wired contraptions by shooting it with a bow & arrow.
