This year, 2025 for Minecraft is an especially active time for the endlessly growing title. This April, Warner Bros. prepares to release the live-action film starring Jack Black & Jason Mamoa. This past February, fans received the final official trailer for the Minecraft movie as it plans to hit the silver screen later this spring.
There are also changes coming to the core game too. Previously, Mojang Studios confirmed that proper virtual reality support for Minecraft will be officially shut down in March 2025. This includes both PC & PlayStation VR versions of the game. Additionally, creator Notch did announce previously that he is intending to create a successor to Minecraft earlier this year.
From Minecraft Live this weekend, Mojang Studios had plenty to share on the future plans for Minecraft. In that, the first Game Drop is coming this week titled ‘Spring to Life’. You can watch the overview in the video below:
“The drop brings new life to the Overworld. We’re adding warm and cold variants of some of our classic mobs, new ambient features like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand plus even more reasons to explore near and far! We hope this update provides plenty of opportunities to make your Overworld travels and builds more immersive than ever,” Mojang says.
The developer elaborates that the new structured ‘Game Drops’ offers for more content each year as well. “We’re releasing more features more frequently. These releases are called “Game Drops”. And because we’re releasing features more often, we’re also broadcasting not one, but two Minecraft LIVE shows per year!”
