For many that have acknowledged this weekend’s significance, this year’s annual Minecraft Live took place. Leading up to the event, developer Mojang Studios shared that a new poll will be held to decide on three new mobs: Moobloon, Iceologer, and Glow Squid. Among the three, it was spared after the brief voting session that the aquatic Glow Squid will be joining the game later on.

But for more detail on what is currently on Minecraft’s roadmap for the coming months, Mojang Studios reiterates on last year’s poll winner, Mountains. In that, the firm gave a glimpse at the new goats that will be coming. As you would expect from their blocky appearance, the new mob has high jumping abilities and can tackle those who get too close. Additionally, the team also offered a look at how mountains generated appear in the coming update.

Oh yeah, Mojang Studios also provided the new name for the coming update – Cliffs & Caves. Elaborating on the winning candidate of last year’s polling and years of an expansive overhaul for the underground, Mojang Studios gave a full presentation on the new update during Minecraft Live this weekend. You can watch it in full in the video below:

Summarizing on some aspects that were featured in the showcase, alike the bombastic Nether Update earlier this year there will be a similar treatment to the cavernous regions of Minecraft. This includes two new biomes to the depths: Lush Caves and Dripstone Caves. For the first, players can find these vegetation-filled caverns under a azalea tree on the surface. In that, players can discover dripleaf plants, hanging glow berries, and the new Axolotl mobs.

The latter Dripstone Caves offers both stalagmites and stalactites to the world’s underbelly. Other underground findings include copper ore, amethyst, and shulk growths as you reach the void. The new mineral opens new opportunity to craft lightning rods and combined with the crystals to introduce the telescope to Minecraft.

To unearth the shulk growths, Mojang Studios best explained the new addition to be a form of “wireless redstone” as the block reacts to movements to activate. Furthermore, this also incorporates the new Warden mob that’s instincts is based on sound. The large being will take a lot to eliminate, so tread carefully. Going back to the surface, Mojang Studios is also adding archeology sites as well.

Uncovered across the world, players can use the brush to find new items and uncover the history of certain findings. Fragments collected can be use to decorate a pot and furnace them to imprint the stories of people before. To better organize your findings, Mojang Studios is also including bundles to free up space in player inventory.

What has you most excited for the Cliffs & Caves Update?

Minecraft is out now for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Android, iOS, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
