While Mortal Kombat 11 has certainly left a lasting impression with the number of post-launch content that came to the game, fans are certainly hungry for the next main installment. However, developer NetherRealm Studios did take a different approach for the series. When anticipating to be a new title, it ended up being an upcoming mobile entry, ‘Mortal Kombat Onslaught’ aimed to release this year.
However, it was later clarified that Mortal Kombat 12 – the alleged name for the new title – will ship this year in a financial call with Warner Bros. Discovery. What surprised more players was later learning that the next game will be going under on new moniker: Mortal Kombat 1. The new entry to offer a premium experience in the Mortal Kombat universe.
On Thursday, NetherRealm Studios & Warner Bros. Games officially announced Mortal Kombat 1. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:
“Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest title in the acclaimed Mortal Kombat videogame franchise developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios. The game will introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang, featuring reimagined versions of iconic characters as they’ve never been seen before, along with a new fighting system, game modes, bone krushing finishing moves, and more,” the FAQ answers about the new game.
Noted, pre-orders is also stated to offer early hands-on with Mortal Kombat 1. Pre-purchasing on console will grant access to a closed beta being held this August. And purchasing the Premium Edition of the game also offers five days early access to Mortal Kombat 1. More exciting is rollback netcode will be supported for the game at launch.
