Resulting from Anthem having the release date being pushed to 2019, an unannounced Battlefield will be taking its spot for 2018. With months still to go when the game will officially be announced.
Unknown why Anthem will be extending their release to 2019, but replacing with Battlefield won’t be breaking the cycle that Battlefield and Battlefront have been sharing since 2014. And with another October release won’t be anything out of the ordinary as Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 both launched in October.
But what would break these patterns that EA has shown is if the next Battlefield would be the next Bad Company title. With rumors going around about Battlefield: Bad Company 3 making it’s way to releasing previously, it would be refreshing for that branch of the franchise to show its face again. As Bad Company 2 came out back in 2010 and later following with a Vietnam DLC, it seems this could be a great possibility. Maybe even a World War II title as DICE has been looking at previous wars looking at Battlefield 1. Or even returning to modern combat with Battlefield 5, but with how Battlefield 4 launched back in 2013 DICE and EA especially might not want to return to what occurred with the ongoing problems the game had originally. And don’t expect another spinoff like Battlefield: Hardline as the studio behind it Visceral Games closed back in October.
With not much to go on from this recent news, it is to be expected to see an official announcement for the next Battlefield title at E3 this year or even earlier from EA personally as Battlefield 1 was revealed in May of 2016.
